Palaeontologists in P2/3 CG
28th Feb 2025
We have been learning about fossils and Palaeontologists. We learnt that
- Palaeontologists are both scientists and detectives. They use scientific methods like excavation to discover clues that help them solve the mysteries of the past
- Excavation means re- moving soil to discover tools and other things used by people who lived a long time ago.
- Excavating a site to destroys the soil layers. This means that Palaeontologists can’t go back and repeat the process if they miss a clue the first time. They also have to be very careful to not damage any hidden artifacts as they dig.
- Excavation is a slow and difficult process!
We got the opportunity to be Palaeontologists. As a challenge we were given chocolate chip cookies and the challenge was to remove the chocolate chips from the cookie by digging and being careful - just like Palaeontologists. What fun it was!
